Prepare to study in Canada:

1. Choosing a school, college or university

There are many different types of schools and institutions in Canada. For more information and listings of schools, contact the organizations listed below for each institution type, or consult:

Many schools and institutions across the country offer opportunities to study in French.

2. Designated learning institutions list

To apply for a study permit, you need an acceptance letter from a designated learning institution. A designated learning institution is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students.

All primary and secondary schools in Canada are designated learning institutions. They aren’t included in this list.

If you plan to attend a post-secondary school, make sure it is on this Designated Learning Institutions List.

3. Obtain the right documents

You need these documents to apply for a study permit:

  • proof of acceptance
  • proof of identity
  • proof of financial support

Depending on your case you may also need:

  • letter of explanation
  • Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ)
  • Custodian declaration (minors only)
